Lift Me Up

(Ronda Matson)
Lift Me Up

The leaves flew ‘round me in circled fury.
They seemed to call my name.
And for a moment, they lifted me up,
Earth and sky the same.

I wished that I could see through the darkness
that held me in my dream.
But was I dreaming? Or is this waking?
Nothing is what it seems.

Lift me up! Oh, lift me up!
Waking or dreaming, lift me up.
Lift me up! Oh, lift me up!
Show me pathways lined with flowers,
willows hanging branches low,
scattered sunlight through the showers.
Lift me up. Oh, lift me up.
Where you go, I will follow.
I will follow.

In whispered union, clouds gathered ‘round me.
They seemed to know my name.
And for a moment, the dream did bind me.
I thought I was to blame.

Could I swim through these uncertain waters?
Would I still know my name?
At break of morning, the sun was rising.
Out of the mist, it came.

When autumn drew the leaves, they fell and tumbled patterns on the land.
And winter’s breath, it stilled the water that once in summer rushed to sand.
The dream held fast my hope of fleeing—earthly worries fill my hand.
Tomorrow holds the wish of seeing all that’s grand.

Lift me up! Oh, lift me up!
Waking or dreaming, lift me up.
Lift me up! Oh, lift me up!
Show me pathways lined with flowers,
willows hanging branches low,
scattered sunlight through the showers.
Lift me up! Oh, lift me up!
Where you go, I will follow.
I will follow.

Lift me up! Oh, lift me up!
Waking or dreaming, lift me up.
Lift me up! Oh, lift me up!
Show me pathways lined with flowers,
willows hanging branches low,
scattered sunlight through the showers.
Lift me up! Oh, lift me up!
Where you go, I will follow.
I will follow.

Lift me up!
Lift me up!
Lift me.
